- Hi!,
-
- I'm not familiar with Pronet, but I use Parnet which is probably similar.
- You can use a switch box to switch between the printer and the net, BUT
- the switch MUST be a type known as "break-before-make", rather than
- "make-before-break", or you run the serious risk of blowing the CIA chips
- in the Amiga if you do a "hot-switch", that is switch while the power is on.
-
- The other point is that with Parnet at least, you have to re-boot the
- computer to reclaim the parallel port from the network. So you cannot
- transfer a file from the "slave" computer to the "master" computer, then
- flip a switch and immediatley print it, then switch back to the network.
-
- If you want to "hot-switch" but can't find the correct type of switch,
- another solution I have heard about, but not tried, is to buy a 4-way
- switch. Connect your cables to the "A" and "D" connectors. Then when
- switching, you go through two empty posistions that should eliminate
- potential problems.
-
- Hope this helps!
